Cold and flu season has arrived! Are you prepared?
I begin to gather the potions that help see me and my family through another winter. Ricola is an absolute must! Winter's scratchy throats are easily relieved with these magical lozenges!
Next potion on my list is Astragalus. Astragalus is a plant within the Legumes family, and has been used for centuries in Chinese Medicine as an immune system booster. I first discovered Astragalus when my son began attending his freshman year in college. Living in the dorms, my concern for his health was keeping me up at night. I began researching healthy, natural ways to help boost his immune system. 1-2 daily doses of Astragalus was all that was needed to get my son got through Freshman Year without a cold or flu. This was historic for him, from a young age he caught every virus and flu that was floating around. Astragalus can be found at Whole Foods for about $17 a bottle, and believe me it's worth every cent! 10-20 drops in a glass of water 2-3 times daily, or you can place it directly under your tongue, it's peppermint and dark root flavor tingles and I can literally taste it's healing power!
Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Lavender are staples in my Essential Oil Kit. I use these Essential Oils in dozens of my potions, my favorite winter potion is my homemade shower disks. As a preventative measure I use them once a week throughout the winter to keep my sinuses open, but if you're not yet that dedicated they can be used specifically to treat congestion.
Essential Oils- peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus
Muffin liners (my go to liners are the Reynold's Wrap aluminum tin liners, available in different sizes, I use the smallest for these disks)
2-3 cups baking soda, add water to create a paste (approximately 1/4 - 1/3 cup of water)
Add 15-20 drops of each Essential Oil
Spoon the mixture into the muffin tins filling about half way
Let sit overnight to dry/solidify
Remove from muffin liner and place anywhere on the floor of the shower
Amazing how the oils steam away that stuffy nose!
And in my opinion, the most important reminder during this cold and flu season:
WASH YOUR HANDS!!!
